it turns out with newer version of windows git exe it was initialising repos with an undefined remote "origin" which couldnb't be renamed/moved/deleted

if I type git remote -v i get back a push and a pull address on origin

i'm trying to deploy Octopress however it craps out saying "fatal:No remote repository specified. Please specify either a URL etc etc"
