Or is there a better pinentry program I should be using?

So now the question is why /usr/local/bin/pinentry-mac isn't working all of a sudden

It used to work, hmm, but maybe I was doing something different

It fails now with: gpg: signing failed: no pinentry

my key has a passphrase, which I have configured in the gpg-agent.conf to use /usr/local/bin/pinentry-mac to grab

Oh, one piece of information that is relevant:

I just wish there was a way to get some sort of return code or stderr from gpg when git invokes it...

They're symlinked to each other, but nope, it's set to gpg (which is the 2.1.0 binary)

The exact same version is working with the same set of dotfiles on Linux, so I'm pretty sure it's not incompatible

anyone have any idea what might've changed, or how I would go about debugging this? (not a lot to go on based on the error message I'm seeing)

So, starting like 2 weeks ago, I've been unable to do GPG signing on git commits anymore; whenever I try to commit, I just get "error: gpg failed to sign the data". It worked for like a year before this without issue, gpg binary is still there and healthy, GPG_TTY is set properly, and this exact same set of dotfiles works fine in Linux, it's just on macOS that it decided to fall over and die 2 weeks ago...

rindolf, English is clearly not his first language, I don't think he's going to get this particular nuance :P
