So, I was wondering if anyone knew of a project on github that mimick'd it. I found a few that came close, but the ones that were done with any quality were missing the direct text-input function.

Well, I'm actually looking to see if there's a project listed based on what I'm looking to do. I found this web-app: https://awwapp.com/ but I'd really like to host it myself instead of have a third-party host it.
