I googled github mirrors, all I see is instructions for making a github based mirror of a *non* github repo using a post-receive hook

Zarthus: also that's why respectable companies tend to blog about it if they remove features, and explain why

Zarthus was also defending a ui change that nobody has a valid explanation for how it helps anything :P

ah. meh. seems like something anyone could do with their own script, even github to github

did the mirror functionality actually require them copying files?

because if everyone knows this then everyone will be saved the extra click

though what they should do is put a note in the "clone with https" bubble that points out you can use the address bar url

either way, I just don't see the impetus for the redesign anyways, the url was never taking up much space... right now on any reasonable sized screen, there's a bunch of whitespace in between the new pull request button and the create new file button :P

the reason I never guessed that was because the https clone url github gives you has .git at the end

but wow. I actually had no idea I could use the address bar url of the project as the clone url. I just tried it and it worked!

Zarthus: if I'm cruising the internet, and someone links to a github, clicking the link and copying the url is easier than typing anything :P

hopefully there's some kind of reason and someone here can help me understand why the single most common action on github project pages was hidden behind a button...
