I've tried the same process with a new, empty github repo and it worked fine, so the stuff I am pushing is ok.

Hi, does anyone know what happens if I `git push --mirror` a local repo to a non-empty github repo? It only has a readme and a .gitignore in it, which I'm happy to lose.
