does git keep some local information in an info dir, or is it all in the .git dir inside the repo?

i mean, of course _they_ know whats going on! but do _normal_ users of git? or do most people just twiddle with git + github, or git + local servers, etc.?

i guess. it ended up working when i checked out the hex id tho, so im not sure what the difference is
