hey, some of my pages aren't inheriting my default layout, and jekyll's throwing no warnings. is there any way to troubleshoot that? if I add "layout: default" to the YFM then it works, but I want _config.yml to drive that

(i hope my question makes sense... an example: imagine to use jekyll to write a math-course, but the dynamism around it to manage users, pupils solving exercises, etc...) Is it a good idea to look at it in that way?
